Recital 2012

Sunday, June 10, 2012 @ 1 & 5 pm. General information below.

Please note that students in our 14-week programs (Creative Movement 1, Creative Movement 2 and Pre-Ballet) do not perform in our annual recitals.

Dancers who are in more than one class per week will, in all likelihood, be in two shows (1 pm and 5 pm), which gives students an additional performance opportunity, and a richer recital experience.

Lists will be posted below to let dancers know which classes have been cast in each show.

Theme for 2012 shows: Eclectic

Cost of tickets will be (tentatively) $10.00/person per show or $15.00/person for two shows (i.e., if you attend both shows you get 50% off the price of the second ticket).

Recital Location: McInnes Room, Dalhousie Student Union Building, 6136 University Avenue

Recital 2012 Information

Hair and make up should be done prior to arriving at the McInnes Room on recital day. Students should pack their tights, dance shoes, extra hair and makeup supplies, and any other items their teacher has requested they bring. We also suggest that students bring quiet activity for backstage time. Dancers should not wear jewelry (unless for religious/cultural reasons), scrunchies, shiny barrettes, or flowery clips, etc. Female students should wear long hair in a bun, students with short hair should have it styled off face. If you do not know how to fashion a bun, please ask us to teach you prior to show day – faculty/assistants would be happy to demonstrate for you. No underwear under tights, please. For junior students, make up should be light – blush, a little eyeshadow, some lipstick.

Teachers will bring costumes to the theatre for the dancers. Students do not get to keep the costumes, so they must be left with their teachers immediately following the performance. Costumes should be removed before leaving the dressing area (i.e., not to be worn if watching remainder of show from audience). Dancers should take care with the costumes – no food or drink, markers/ink, etc.

There are two shows this year. Please check the lists on this page to confirm which show your dancer is performing in. A great number of dancers will be performing in both shows this year, as they are taking more than one dance class per week. The shows are at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The shows will be professionally videotaped, and DVD’s will be available immediately following each show and online (the same company we used last year).

Please arrive at the McInnes Room by 11:30 am for the 1:00 pm show, and 3:30 pm for the 5:00 pm show. Children will be supervised in the backstage area. Parents should not remain with students backstage as space is limited. We respectfully request that men refrain from entering the dressing areas. We have plenty of student teachers and assistants to supervise dancers and assist them with costumes. Unfortunately, they will not have time to help with hair and make up, so again, we request that guardians take care of this prior to arriving at the theatre. There will be a separate dressing area for our male students. NOTE: cameras should not be used in the backstage or dressing areas.

Young students may join their parents in the audience after they perform in the show. Parents should pick students up outside of dressing room area – we will not send children to the audience area on their own due to safety/security concerns. There will be volunteers by the dressing area to sign students in when they arrive at the theatre, and to sign them out before leaving. Costumes must be removed and returned before leaving the dressing room area.

There will be a reception following each show. You may be contacted about donations – beverages, snacks and treats. If you would like to contribute, you can also contact Barbara Dearborn and indicate what you would like to bring.
